The Worth Of Knowing

Knowing in part | Being fully known

Held

They wanted tea so I heated some water and they dipped their tea bags into their mugs.

It was a hard morning so far. The two year old wanted to sit on my lap constantly and I was feeling overwhelmed by his need.

I sang He Will Hold Me Fast to help calm myself from the feeling of being trapped by my own toddler.

“I know this doesn’t make it feel all better, but Jesus is holding you,” I said to him, “Jesus is here and His love is all around you.”

“Is Jesus holding me?” he asked leaning his head on my leg.

“Yes. You can’t see Him, but He is here because He loves you. You see the sun coming up? … Jesus put that there because He loves you. Do you hear the birds? … He put those there because He loves you. This house? … He gave it to is because He loves us. When Jesus died on the cross He did it because He loves us.”

As we let the tea steep I said to my four year old, “You know, in the Bible Jesus tells us to abide in Him. Abiding is kind of letting the tea steeping instead of putting it in and out of the water. Jesus wants us to steep in Him.”

“So the water is like His love?” she asked pointing into her mug.

“Yeah,” I said, surprised how quickly she caught on.

She ran out of the kitchen and sat by the living room couch with her hands folded and eyes closed.

Our need is not too much for God.

“even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬
