The Worth Of Knowing

Knowing in part | Being fully known

Building Something New

“What’s that guy doing?” he asked in his drawn out 2 year old voice.

“He’s using a jack hammer to break up the street,” I answered.

“But whyyyy?” came the infamous question from the back of the car.

“Because sometimes,” I said with a catch in my voice, “you have to break down old things before you can build something new.”

If I say “Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” how can I lay down hot asphalt on a road that needs to be completely torn up? How can I pretend my heart and my way of relating to God and His children is “good enough” when I can barely drive down those roads anymore?

What if there’s another option besides closing the road or paving it over in short lived attempt to hide the craters?

What if we break down an old way of relating to pave a new-to-us way?

If heaven is primarily about knowing God and being known by Him (John 17:3; 1 Corinthians 13:12; Revelation 21:3) then what are we actually praying for when we ask God’s will to happen on earth as it is done in heaven? We’re not praying merely for obedience to rules, but a renewed, intimate relationship with God. And if God then also His body, His house, His bride, and His temple. AKA our brothers and sisters in Christ.

God intends our relationships for so much more than good enough:

“In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:22‬ ‭ESV‬‬
