The Worth Of Knowing

Knowing in part | Being fully known

where women’s rights begin

It’s hard to rejoice today even though I know I have reason to.

The thing that keeps swirling in my head is that women’s rights begin before they feel the need for an abortion.

I hope people can agree with that whether or not they believe abortion is a woman’s right.

The thing is, so many of these other rights have been denied before a woman gets to the place of considering (or being forced into) an abortion.

It’s a woman’s right to decide with whom, when, where, and how she will have sex.

It’s a woman’s right to decide if, when, and what form of birth control she uses.

It’s a women’s right to be treated as a whole person rather than an object by any one person, society, or “purity” culture.

It’s a girl’s right to be taught that her body is a source of beauty and life and to be taught how it is designed to work.

It’s a girl’s right to be taught and supported in saying “no” to unwanted touch.

It’s a young girl’s right to go through her early years with the freedom and confidence that comes when she is not sexualized beyond her years.

It’s a baby girl’s right to live and be loved.

Often a woman is considering abortion because those other rights were ignored or trampled on.

Actually, majority of us have been – to some extent denied – those things. The majority of us have, also, in some way been the one ignoring other people’s inherent value and viewing them as something less then a whole person.

… or, in Biblical terms, less than image bearers of God … known by Him before the foundations of the world … offered full access to God because of the broken body of Christ.

We protect, welcome, respect, and lovingly care for what we value.

The whole abortion conversation is about the value and dignity of human life, not only of the baby, but of the mother from her own conception until she’s standing in front of the abortion clinic … AND BEYOND.

Her value is fixed and determined whether she walks into that abortion clinic or away from it. Her value is inherent. It’s there because she’s breathing. Because she too was formed in an awe inspiring way by God. Because she is known and loved by Him.
