The Worth Of Knowing

Knowing in part | Being fully known

The Way Home

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬ ‭CSB‬‬

“You know what I think of now when I read this passage?” I asked my kids one morning. “That time it rained a lot and all the roads were too flooded to get home.”

“Are you talking about the time we had to stay at Aunt Juju’s?” my 5 year old asked excitedly.

“Yeah,” I smiled, “I had the map on my phone of all the roads, but it couldn’t tell me which ways were actually safe to drive home. Roads were flooded and we even saw that car stranded in the middle of the road surrounded by water.”

“Juju carried us inside and we got all wet!” my kids added.

“And I would have loved to have directions to get home where it was safe and dry. I just needed to know one way home that wasn’t flooded. We didn’t need the map of all the ways that didn’t work, we just needed the one that did.”

“Jesus is our way home.”

“In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again   and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭CSB‬‬

Jesus is the way through the high waters. He is making a warm, dry, safe place. A place with Him.

I know all about the despair of overcoming chronic temptations. It is not serious provided self-offended petulance, annoyance at breaking records, impatience et cetera doesn’t get the upper hand. No amount of falls will really undo us if we keep on picking ourselves up each time. We shall, of course, be very muddy and tattered children by the time we reach home. But the bathrooms are all ready, the towels put out, and the clean clothes are in the airing cupboard. The only fatal thing is to lose one’s temper and give it up. It is when we notice the dirt that God is most present to us: it is the very sign of His presence. – C.S.Lewis
